Melancholy and Raving is a free monthly mental health inspired variety night in London, organised and hosted by community comic and former service user Kym Winstanley.

The catalyst for this was the overwhelmingly positive response to a World Mental Health Day event conceived by Kym in October 2014 with the support of some members of a local women’s group and someone from Alabama 3.

We provide a space for people with personal experience from either inside or outside the mental health system to share and connect through performance while also offering an opportunity for a few more established acts to showcase their material.

We would normally meet 8pm – 10pm on the last Monday of the month in the upstairs dysfunction room at The Ship pub, 68 Borough Road, SE1 1D but because of the pandemic this has not been possible since March 2020.

Thanks to a small grant from the National Service User Network Covid Fund we are meeting online until we can resume meeting in person. The 2021 dates are:

25th January 31st May 27th September
22nd February 28th June 25th October
29th March 26th July 29th November
26th April 30th August No December gig

The focus of the evening is solely on nurturing creative responses to individual experience. We are completely independent and rely entirely on donations to cover costs.
